First things first- Who am I?

I'm Terrie, I'm 29, and I'm a hopeless romantic. I confess- I do read anything and everything from psychological thrillers to marketing books to memoirs, but a cutesy "girl meets boy" beach-read will get me every time. I love watching documentaries and movies with complex twisty-plots, but throw on The Wedding Planner, Ever After or 27 Dresses and I am completely hooked for an hour and twenty minutes and totally non-communicative. I love hearing the stories of how couples met, fell in love, and how they knew this person was the one they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with, even on the not-so-blissful days.

I'm a bay girl who grew up in small town Newfoundland, went to Memorial University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies and biology. Then I hopped on a plane and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to attend the Atlantic School of Theology, where I received a Master of Divinity. I was ordained as a United Church minister and was placed back in rural Newfoundland, close to my hometown. That's when my first true love came into my life - my golden retriever, Walter. (This is relevant later in the story, trust me, hang in there.)

I spent 2 years in this rural area with 4 little churches and my love of presiding at weddings was surpassed only by my love of preaching (for I do LOVE to talk). I loved meeting with couples, talking about marriage, creating a marriage ceremony that spoke to them and being a part of one of the most memorable and special days of a couple's life. Ultimately, after a while curiosity would get the better of me and I'd start asking about their wedding decor, theme, music, dresses, flowers... my love for the weddings went far beyond the ceremony itself.

In April 2013, I was called to a church in St. John's. So, at the end of June, I packed up my things, put Walter in the back of the car, and off we went. I was (thankfully) able to find an apartment where Walter was welcome to live too...

Potential Landlord: You have a dog?
Me: Yes. Is that ok?
Potential Landlord: A small dog, I assume?
Me: *long pause* Well... what do you mean by "small"?
Potential Landlord: So you don't have a small dog.
Me: *long pause* Well... cards on the table, I could lie to you and say yes, but the truth is, I have a 2 year old golden retriever and he's 100lbs and he's really REALLY good and he's really quiet unless you come to the door in which case he will bark and jump all over you but really he just wants to love you and be loved but I love him and I won't give him up so if I can't live in your apartment then that's ok hopefully I'll find something else... *deep breath* Oh, and his name is Walter.
Landlord: *Sigh* I've always had a soft spot for golden retrievers. And Walter is a great name.

Score one for the dog owners! So, Walter and I moved to our apartment in Kilbride. I worked during the day at my new church and spent the rest of my time hiking and chilling with Walter. I happened to hear one day that a brand new dog park had just opened in Mount Pearl not too far from where I lived. Walter and I started going there just about every day... and that's where I met Richard and his recently adopted dog, Stan.

Almost a year to the day later, right there in the dog park, Richard proposed and I said "Yes." (Or, at least, that's what he confirmed later as the whole thing is a blur. I became a sobbing ridiculous mess and I can honestly say I have zero real recollection of the event.)


So, together with our little family- the puppies, the cats, and my two little bears/stepdaughters-to-be, Richard and I are tying the knot this coming June.

I had heard so many women say how stressful planning a wedding is, how frustrating the details are, the complications that come with trying to appease future in-laws and still have their dream wedding. So I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about the planning initially- it's one thing to officiate at someone else's wedding, but completely different planning one's own wedding. But I quickly realized...

I LOVE WEDDING PLANNING.

So much so, all the plans, details, bookings, everything, were done and dusted in about a week and a half. So much so, that I enrolled in and completed the WPIC wedding planning course and became a certified Wedding Coordinator. So much so, that I started my own business: Orchid Events Wedding Planning & Consultation.

So much so, that I started this blog. Why not help all my ladies out there (especially those in Newfoundland) who are so busy with their own lives and now have a wedding to plan on top of it all?
